Want to start podcasting? Here are the resources I recommend if you’re just starting out or about to start. Some are pretty basic, some are necessary and some are just nice to have! If you have questions, let the Podcast Superhero help you personally!
While you don’t need to spend much money to create a podcast, heaving some basic, good quality gear will help you sound your best! To have a professional sound to your podcast, it’s best to use something better than the built-in microphone in your phone, computer or audio recorder.
Logitech ClearChat USB Headset H390
This is better than the built-in mic and works nicely on both PC and Macs. It is also one of the least expensive options (usually under $30). While this would not be my first choice, it’s a great choice if you want to get your feet wet in podcast recording, or if you want to send a guest a better mic without spending a lot of cash.
Audio-Technica ATR2100-USB Microphone
This would be the first microphone I would recommend to anyone you wants a great sound without spending a ton of money! Priced about $40-50, this is a pretty high quality, directional mic that picks up nice sound right in front of you, but reduces a lot of background noise, giving you some clean audio. since its USB, it can work well with Mac and PCs or if you choose to use a recorder (see below) you can plug this mic directly in via the XLR audio cable.
I highly recommend the following accessories to get the most out of your mic:
THE BEST AUDIO
Heil PR-40 Studio Microphone
This is one of the best studio mics out there (and there are a few high-end mics available) that offer superior sound quality, gorgeous dynamic range and wonderful background noise rejection. It is one of the more expensive mics though, and requires a bunch of accessories to use it properly. If you like pretty, then check out Heil’s GOLD version!
If going this route, I highly recommend the following accessories to get the most out of your mic, since this is a studio quality microphone:
WEBSITE + HOSTING
Hands down, SiteGround has your back. I use them for all our websites, and cannot recommend them enough for your webistes, especially your WordPress-based website. They manage your hosting, easy to use tutorials and some great customer service and tech support too! They are very helpful on live chat almost any hour, day or night, to keep your site running smoothly!
Please backup your stuff!!! Seriously. Offsite online backups of your computer and any attached hard drives. I rest easier knowing that there’s a cloud solution and I don’t need to worry about home theft, fires, etc destroying my business and my life!
X Theme is my favorite wordpress theme, followed up by Avada. They’re both excellent platform themes that allow for both out of the box and tons of custom design. AND they’re both available at Envato. You might need some help with tweeks, but a great platform for an awesome site!
Dropbox is everything to me! Dropbox is the defacto method to sync all my devices, backup important fiels and documents and most important, the way I send and receive audio files and projects to my clients. If you don’t have Dropbox, try it free or just pay $100/yr for 1TB of online storage! It’s truly awesome!
